Di’s Greatest Food Hits :: V. III

Another re-mix of some of the best bites of my life: some oldies but goodies, some standards, some one hit wonders – but all scrumptious and memorable.

Sweet I’d stand in line for again and again and again.

red velvet ice cream sandwich at Milk
Milk’s Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwich is a sexy and indulgent version of an old school fav. Just make sure you get in line early for one. It took all I had in me not to fall to the ground and throw a little tantrum the last time I went to Milk and all they had left was something like a mint chocolate chip.

Best performance by a cocktail in a leading role

bestia granita applebum cocktail
I ordered the Granita Applebaum at Bestia mainly due to the name, but how psyched was I to see how it only comes together until they pour apple soda over the shaved ice that keeps the concoction cool. Super cool.

Dish that literally made me pig out

Xoco Rick Bayless Chicago torrejas
The rule is that when I’m on vacation, I can give up my semi-vegetarian ways and sup on a little beef and pork. Good thing I don’t live in Chicago or else I’d have to pretend I was on vacation every time I ordered Xoco’s Torrejas, a french toast sprinkled with bacon.

Most awesome Ladies Who Dine outing

Misfit Bar Dianderthal.com4 Misfit Bar Dianderthal.com3 Misfit Bar Dianderthal.com2We knew it would be fabulous once we decided to have a color theme for our outfits (shades of peach); and The Misfit Bar kept up with our fabulousness with their sassy brunch faire, yummy mimosas, and unforgettable chocolate chip cookies with sea salt.

You never forget your first

mole enchiladas loteria grill
I spent years scared of mole. Finally got the guts to try it at Loteria Grill and fell into chocolate love (similar to drunken love —> surfboard). Since then, I’ve been like a crack addict, trying to re-capture that first high, but no other mole has done it for me yet.

Most photogenic dish

The McIsley Pine Street Biscuits Portland
He worked the camera with that crispy chicken skin and the flaky biscuit dough. And still, the McIsley from Portland’s Pine State Biscuits found a way to taste even better than it looked.

What I long for on cold, rainy days

the optimist gumbo atlanta
The Optimist’s Seafood Gumbo proved meaty, briny, hearty, rich, zesty and more all at once. Who am I kidding – I long for it on any kind of day.

My kind of pizza pie

pieologypieology
Smirk if you want, but the promise of a Pieology pizza with pineapple, garlic, basil, and red onion will make me behave.

  1. Wow! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a entirely different topic but it has pretty much the same page layout and design. Outstanding choice of colors!

  2. You should participate in a contest for the most effective blogs on the web. I will recommend this web site!
