LWD Flashback :: Loteria Grill and Churros Calientes

In 2011, a group of friends launched Ladies Who Dine, a restaurant club designed to take us on a Southern California foodie adventure. Each month, one of our nine members selects a restaurant (within 25 miles of our home base of Long Beach) and, as a group, we meet, we eat, we don’t complain.

It’s been a tasty two years so far. Personally, I’ve met my goal of trying new dishes (Brussels sprouts? Who knew?!), and have had some great moments catching up with our Ladies. Here is a re-post (we changed blogs last summer) from our very first outing (we did REAL reviews back then) – a double: Loteria Grill in Hollywood and Churros Calientes in West L.A.

Lady Papa’s Ode to Loteria Grill’s Mole:

Mole tastes good.
Mole tastes fine.
Mole enchiladas are so sublime.

With lots of black beans.
With plenty of sauce.
With a Tamarindo margarita, of course.

Si, Senorita
Porque no, Senor.
I’d lick it up if it spilled on the floor.

Was a mole virgin.
Mole wasn’t my type.
Now, mole makes me feel alright.

Chips were divine.
Fried cheese was so-so.
Mole enchiladas I’d eat with my toes.

Chili peppers and chocolate.
De Pueblo Mexico.
Loteria’s mole can’t be found in da sto’

Mole’s not pretty.
Mole don’t look so nice.
But Loteria’s mole is worth the price.

Pipian yummy too.
Flan cake, not so bad.
But mole’s more sexy than Color Me Bad
